Sermon series

How we approach someone defines the interaction.

When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He wasn’t simply giving them a pattern for saying their prayers. He was teaching them something far deeper: the basics of how we are to approach God. And Jesus began with one word that defined the entire experience—for them and for us: “Father.”

That changes everything.
Prayer isn’t persuading a distant deity to notice us. It isn’t presenting the right words to a reluctant God. Jesus teaches us to come to God as children approaching a Father who knows us, loves us, and welcomes us.

This week, we begin our new series, "Approach", we’ll discover that learning to approach God as our Father doesn’t simply change the way we pray.  It changes the way we live.

Sermon series

This week we return to our series, “Good Question, Better Answer,” by considering one of the most common and troubling questions we face as believers:  "Why does a good God allow suffering?" It is a question that troubles believers and skeptics alike- and one that becomes deeply personal when pain enters our own lives.

In John 9, Jesus encounters a man born blind. His disciples ask whose sin caused the man’s suffering. Jesus’ response opens their eyes to possibilities their question had overlooked: God can reveal His goodness in human weakness, and His followers have a part to play.

Together, we will explore how the gospel can reshape our understanding of suffering, moving us toward people in pain, and giving us hope beyond our present circumstances.

Whether you are wrestling with suffering yourself or wondering how to help someone else, join us as we consider how the gospel gives us better answers to the questions of pain and suffering.  See you Sunday!

Sermon series

This Sunday the Superintendent of our District, Dr. Mike Plunket will join us and bring the message. In his message, Mike will explore the Holy Spirit’s transforming presence in our lives and the role this transformation plays as we carry out the mission of Jesus.

The Spirit does more than live within believers; He works from the inside out, forming the character of Christ in us, filling us with love, joy, hope, and power, and equipping us to bring the good news to a hurting world. We'll see how the same Spirit who empowered Jesus still transforms ordinary people today, enabling us to reflect Christ’s beauty to a broken world and participate in His mission.

I hope you'll join us as Dr. Mike shares, “Formed and Filled to Flow,”  See you Sunday!

Sermon series

Few subjects in our culture are more personal or more difficult to talk about than sex and sexuality. Boundaries that were once widely accepted are questioned or ignored.  As followers of Jesus we can find ourselves unsure how to respond. Do we "speak truth" more loudly? Do we remain silent? Do we withdraw? Do we seek to adapt?

In John 8, Jesus encounters a woman whose sexual life and brokenness has suddenly become very public. In fact, her very life hangs in the balance. But what happens next gives us a remarkable picture of how Jesus responds to sexually broken people. He neither ignores her sin nor abandons her because of it. Instead, He offers grace, truth, dignity, and the possibility of a different future.

We'll consider what might happen if the church learned to engage our sexually confused world in the same way? Join us for Part 2 of "Good Question, Better Answer: The Gospel in a Sexually Confused World." See you Sunday!

Sermon series

Politics can divide families, friendships, churches, and communities. And for followers of Jesus, the questions are no less difficult. We all want the world around us to reflect what we believe is good and right. But people on different sides of the political spectrum can point to the teachings of Jesus to support their very different conclusions. Just how are Christians supposed to live faithfully—and live together—in such a divided world?

In 1 Corinthians 9, Paul describes himself as living under “Christ’s law.” That allegiance changed everything for Paul, including how he engaged people with whom he deeply disagreed. This was costly for Paul, but in his own words, he did it all, "for the sake of the gospel."

On Sunday we'll consider what might happen when our concern isn't winning an argument, advancing a viewpoint, or even "getting it all right," but rather reaching people with the transforming good news of Jesus.  I hope you'll join me for Part 2 of  "Good Question, Better Answer." "How does the Gospel speak to our politically divided world?"
See you Sunday.

Sermon series

This Sunday we will begin a series looking at some of the biggest questions of our day through the lens of the gospel. When the gospel becomes the lens through which we see our world, it changes everything.

We hear and use this phrase "the gospel" often—but do we really understand what it means? The apostle Paul warned that it is possible to believe “in vain,” then reminded the Corinthians of the gospel they had received and on which they had taken their stand. In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul brings us back to what is “of first importance” reminding us that the gospel that saves and changes us is not teaching about what we need to do for God; it's good news about what God has done for us through Jesus.

This week we'll re-discover this gospel and how it shapes our lives and how we see our world. Please join us for" "Good Question. Better Answer Part 1: What is the Gospel?"  See you Sunday!

Sermon series

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." (Hebrews 13:8)  In a world where almost everything seems to change—our circumstances, relationships, culture, and even our expectations—the author of Hebrews points us to the One who never does. Because Jesus is the same yesterday, we can look back at His life and see what He is truly like: faithful, compassionate, holy, gracious, and completely trustworthy. Because He is "the same today," the Jesus we find in scripture is the person we can know, trust, and follow right now. And because He is the same forever, we can face uncertain days with enduring hope and joy.

Following Jesus puts us outside what our culture accepts or celebrates, but we can still go confidently to Him. Our circumstances may change. Our world certainly will. But Jesus never will—and that changes how we see everything else. Please join us Sunday for "Greater Than, Part 7: Greater Than A Changing World."  See you Sunday!

Those serving on the team are David and Eny Aymat, Glenn and Sandie Brackmann, Barbara Cannon, and Robbie and Beth Gross.

If you would like to support this mission trip financially, donations can be made through the VVC Subsplash app by scrolling down to "Envision Missions Trip – Miami." You can also give through your weekly offering by writing "Mission Trip" in the box labeled "Other."

Most importantly, we invite you to begin praying now for the team as they prepare for the trip, for the hearts of the people they will be serving, and for all of the travel arrangements. We will share additional prayer requests with the congregation in early September.

We are also looking for volunteers who may be able to provide transportation to and from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Departure will be very early in the morning on September 20, and pickup will be needed on September 26 between approximately 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. Exact times will be shared as they become available.

Thank you, VVC family, for your prayers, generosity, and support!

Due to an oversight on my part, these 2nd Qtr Governing Board highlights were not previously distributed. Q3 highlights will be distributed in early October as regularly scheduled.
-Pastor Jeff

Sermon series

Hebrews 13 calls its readers to love one another like family, welcome strangers, and remember those who are vulnerable and suffering. Ironically, the original readers of Hebrews actually felt like abandoned family members, strangers, and some had literally been imprisoned as a result of their faith in Jesus.

This week we arrive at Week 7 of our “Greater Than” series.  We’ll discover that love, hospitality and service aren’t just acts of kindness - they are acts of worship. Genuine worship doesn’t turn us inward or protect us from the needs of others. It aligns our hearts with God’s heart. When we understand how generously God has welcomed us, we become people who generously make room for others. And we set the stage for God to do something unexpected!

I hope you’ll join us for “Greater Than Part 7: The Myth of Self-Preservation.”  See you Sunday!
-Pastor Jeff Quinn

Sermon series

Have you ever wondered why Jesus is such good news? Or do you have a hard time explaining why He is?  This week we'll look at why. The writer of Hebrews says the old way of relating to God is now "obsolete and outdated." (8:13) That's a bold claim. So what makes life with Jesus so much better?

Quoting the prophet Jeremiah, Hebrews points to three life-changing promises. First, God changes us from the inside out, shaping our hearts instead of simply giving us more rules to follow. Second, He invites us into a real relationship with Him—not just a religion, but a life lived with our Creator. Third, He offers complete forgiveness, freeing us from the weight of guilt and shame.

If you've ever wondered whether real change is possible, whether God wants a relationship with you, or whether your past can truly be forgiven, this message is for you. We'll consider the better hope Jesus offers in "Greater Than, Part 5: Greater Than The Old Way."

-Pastor Jeff Quinn

Whats Going On At VVC?

Dear Valley View Chapel Family,

After a lot of thought, prayer, and consideration, I have accepted a position with a company that allows me to work entirely from home. My last day at Valley View Chapel will be Friday, August 21.

This was a difficult decision because working at Valley View has been a privilege and a pleasure. Over the past two years, I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people, celebrate important moments with your families, and build relationships that I will always cherish.

As many of you know, I have a large family, and the position I have accepted will provide more flexibility and better support the needs of my family during this busy season of life.

I want to thank each of you for the kindness, support, and encouragement you have shown me throughout my time here. You have truly made Valley View Chapel feel like home.

Although I am moving on from this role, this church and the people in it will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives and for making these last two years so memorable.

With gratitude,
Victoria Grogaard

Sermon series

We spend so much of life chasing the next thing—a promotion, security, comfort, success, approval-- but what if the place we've been striving to reach isn't the place God has been calling us to all along? Authentic faith isn't pretending to have it all together, rather it's choosing Jesus again and again, even in the middle of our brokenness, and allowing Him to change us along the way. This Sunday, as we continue our Greater Than series through the book of Hebrews, we'll explore what it means to draw near to Jesus and discover why there is no greater place we could ever be than at His feet. I hope you'll join us this Sunday.

Sermon series

This Sunday we continue in our "Greater Than" series. Are you tired—but not just physically? Many of us carry a deeper weariness caused by stress, uncertainty, disappointment, or the constant pressure to keep proving ourselves. In Hebrews 4, the author describes something we all long for: true rest. Sunday we'll discover that real rest begins by trusting Jesus instead of striving to earn our worth. We'll see how God's Word lovingly uncovers the things that steal our peace so it can lead us into deeper freedom. And we'll be reminded of the incredible hope that one day, God's people will experience perfect and eternal rest in His presence. If you've ever felt exhausted by life's demands or wondered where lasting peace can be found, join us Sunday for "Greater Than Part 4: Giver of Rest" See you Sunday!

Sermon series

This Sunday we'll continue with our "Greater Than" series by considering, "What is God building?"

The author of Hebrews says God is building a house. This idea mattered deeply to the first readers of Hebrews who took their identity and confidence from the thought that God dwelled with them. But the house God is building isn't made of bricks, stone, or stained glass—it's made of people. And in Hebrews 3:1–6, we see it is Jesus who oversees this entire building project. This Sunday, we'll discover what it means to be God's house, why Jesus alone is worthy of our complete trust, and how a life built on Him becomes a place where God Himself is pleased to dwell. I hope you'll join us for "Greater Than Part 3: We Are His House" See you Sunday.

  • And it's not too late to join one of our groups that meet to study Hebrews and to encourage each other to apply these ideas in daily life. If you would like to learn more about these groups visit the VVC website or download the VVC app and click, "Life Groups - I'm Interested."

Sermon series

Fear has a way of quietly shaping our lives. We worry about our health, our families, our finances, and our future. Beneath so many of our everyday anxieties lies a deeper question: Am I OK? In Hebrews 2, we see that God doesn't simply tell us to "not be afraid." Instead, He invites us to see Jesus more clearly. Jesus entered our world, faced our greatest enemy, conquered death itself, and now calls us His own. The more we understand who He is and what He has done for us, the less power fear has over our lives. And knowing Him can replace anxiety with confidence, courage, and lasting hope. Join us this Sunday as we continue our "Greater Than" series and discover why Jesus is "Greater Than Our Fears." See you Sunday!

Sermon series

Sunday we will begin a series on the book of Hebrews. This powerful book invites us to discover that Jesus is greater than we ever imagined. He is more than a teacher, a good example, or a historical figure — He is God's clearest picture of Himself and the One who brings us salvation, hope, forgiveness, purpose, and lasting peace. Hebrews points us back to Christ in good times and bad. It reminds us why He is worthy of our trust and our lives. Join us Sunday as we explore who Jesus is, what He has done for us, and how following Him can transform our lives every day. See you Sunday!

Sermon series

This Sunday we'll celebrate Father's Day and honor and pray for the fathers of Valley View Chapel.

Being a father isn't easy, and today's challenges can feel overwhelming. That's why we'll look at Noah—a father who led his family through the greatest storm in human history. While his story is filled with dramatic events, his life was built on two simple practices that shaped everything he did.
But these practices aren't just for fathers. They're habits every one of us can pursue as we seek to follow God.

I hope you'll join us this Sunday for "A Father in a Storm." I look forward to seeing you then!

Sermon series

In Mark 1:40–44, a desperate man with leprosy comes to Jesus with a simple but honest prayer: “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus’ response to the man reveals powerful insights into the heart of our savior. This Sunday at Valley View Chapel, we’ll turn to our Lord for healing as we explore this hope-filled story of Jesus and the leper.

We’ll be reminded that healing is in Jesus’ hands and that healing is in Jesus’ heart. And together, we'll discover if healing is in His plan for our lives. Whether you’re seeking physical healing, emotional restoration, spiritual renewal, or simply wondering if God still sees your struggle, this Sunday at Valley View is for you.

Sermon series

This Sunday we will celebrate baptism with several of our church family. In preparation for this special moment in our life as a church, we'll consider what the Apostle Paul taught about baptism in Romans 6:4; "We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life." We'll briefly explore this new life and how baptism relates to it. I hope you'll join us for this time of celebration together. See you Sunday!

Sermon series

Sunday we'll conclude our “Giving For Living” series with a message called “Generosity: The Happiness of Giving” from 2 Corinthians 9:6–15.

When we think about giving, words like duty, obligation, or even sacrifice often come to mind. But what if God intended our giving to be marked by something different — joy? The Apostle Paul describes a kind of giving that is eager, cheerful, and life-giving. Still, many of us know what it feels like to give reluctantly or simply out of routine. So what is the missing ingredient? Generosity!

In this message, we’ll explore how authentic generosity grows as we celebrate both the source of what we have received and the impact of what God does through our giving. Most importantly, we’ll discover how generosity ultimately points us back to the greatest gift of all—Jesus Himself!

I hope you'll join me Sunday for “Generosity: The Happiness of Giving.” See you then!

Sermon series

Having considered “Stewardship as The Heart of Giving,” we naturally move to the “how” of giving. In week two of our Giving For Living series, we will explore the "how" of giving as we consider tithing from Malachi 3:6–12.

For many people, conversations about tithing feel uncomfortable, confusing, or even manipulative. But in Malachi, God approaches this topic not merely as a command, but as an invitation. Speaking to people who had drifted spiritually, God issued this invitation: “Return to me, and I will return to you.”
We will explore why tithing is ultimately about relationship and trust, not obligation. We'll wrestle honestly with God’s sobering charge that His people were “robbing” Him — not by taking, but by withholding what rightly belonged to Him. We will also consider why bringing our tithes to the local church remains a faithful application of Scripture today.

Best of all, we'll reflect on God’s remarkable invitation: “Test me in this…” and we'll see how obedience in tithing leads to blessed lives, deeper trust in His provision, and a stronger witness to the world around us!

I hope you'll join me for Giving for Living 2- Tithing: The How of Giving. See you Sunday!

Sermon series

This Sunday we begin a new three-part sermon series exploring one of the most important and life-giving principles in all of Scripture. Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” and His words are far more than a sentimental platitude or a motivational slogan. They point to a fundamental truth about the kind of life God blesses and the kind of heart God seeks to form within us.

Throughout Scripture, giving is connected to joy, trust, worship, freedom, and spiritual maturity. In this series, we'll be reminded that it is "giving" that builds the life we can be "living."

This week, we'll see that stewardship is the true foundation of biblical generosity. In 1 Chronicles 29:6–19 King David reminds us that everything we possess ultimately belongs to God, and that acknowledging Him changes the way we view our resources, our priorities, and our lives. This message will challenge us to move from an ownership mindset to a stewardship mindset marked by humility, worship, and impact. Best of all - scripture abounds with promised blessings for those who respond! I hope you'll join us Sunday for "Giving For Living 1: Stewardship: The Heart of Giving." See you Sunday!

Sermon series

This Mother’s Day, join us as we consider the remarkable story of Jochebed — the mother of Moses — a woman whose quiet faith helped shape the future of God’s people. Her name means “God is Glory,” a reminder that her life, motherhood, and calling were all connected to the glory of God.

In a season of fear, uncertainty, and impossible choices, Jochebed courageously protected the child God had entrusted to her. What may have looked like a simple act of a mother’s love became part of God’s great plan of deliverance. Her story reminds us that faithfulness to our calling — especially in the hidden and difficult moments — can have eternal impact.

Our Mother’s Day service will encourage all of us to trust God with the lives He has placed in our care. Happy Mother’s Day to all the women who faithfully reflect God’s love every day.  See you Sunday!

Sermon series

How did Jesus' first disciples transition from experiencing His resurrection to engaging His mission? In Acts 2, we see this group of ordinary people become an extraordinary community—devoted, united, generous, and alive with joy. Their lives weren’t centered on events, but on new priorities, new people, and new power. The result was a witness so compelling that others couldn’t ignore it. This Sunday, we’ll explore how the risen Jesus reshapes what matters most, who we belong to, and how we live—with the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is alive… Now What? Come discover the kind of life—and community—you were made for. See you Sunday!

Sermon series

If anyone seemed ready to change the world, it was the disciples when they had seen and spoken with the risen Jesus. And Jesus had specific instructions for them., He told them to stay in Jerusalem. He told them to wait. Why?
Because seeing Jesus is not the same as being empowered by His Spirit.
In Acts 1, we see a surprising and important principle: Before witness can begin, there must be spiritual empowerment. Jesus points His followers not to strategy or even certainty, but to the Holy Spirit—the source of real power for witness.
What if the effectiveness of our ministry isn’t about trying harder, but about being filled? Sunday, we'll explore the difference between relying on what we know and depending on the One who lives within us.

Join us as we wrestle with a key question for every follower of Jesus: Now What? See you Sunday!
